Johan Djourou wants to prove to Arsene Wenger that he can plug the gaps in Arsenal's central defence.

Sol Campbell's departure to Portsmouth and Philippe Senderos' shoulder injury have left the Gunners short, with the latter expected to be sidelined for three months.

"I am proud he picked me (against Zagreb). I just had to show on the pitch that I can do it," said the Switzerland international. "I may be young, I am only 19, but I showed him I have the character and the quality to play."
